Vortex Engineering Ltd was engaged to design and deliver the ventilation system for Pioneer Energy’s Christchurch Organics Processing Facility (OPF).

The facility forms part of Christchurch’s commitment to improved waste management and resource recovery, supporting the processing of organic waste while reducing reliance on landfill disposal.

The project involves the design and construction of a complete industrial ventilation system to support processing operations, maintain air quality, and provide a safe working environment within the facility.

Our Solution

• Full design and construct delivery of the ventilation system

• Redesign of the original concept to meet industrial ventilation requirements, including high airflow volumes and elevated system pressures

• Adoption of heavy-gauge round ductwork and increased transport velocities to optimise system performance and dust capture

• Selection of industrial centrifugal fans in place of conventional air handling units

• Supply and integration of key equipment, including:

  • 2 × high-capacity extraction fans (FB1700)
  • 1 × supply air fan (FB710)
  • Complete supply and extract ductwork systems with control dampers

• Inclusion of Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) to provide operational flexibility and system control

Project Update

Fabrication is being carried out by Taylors Manufacturing.

Site installation is scheduled to commence in mid-2026, subject to overall construction progress and building readiness.
