Engineering Design and Consultancy
Vortex provides engineering design and consultancy for air-pollution control systems, helping clients select the right technology and optimise performance.
Our services include feasibility reviews, on-site assessments, flue-gas testing, mechanical and chemical engineering design, 3D modelling, and CFD/FEA analysis.
We deliver objective, technically sound recommendations tailored to each application.
Inspection and Testing
Vortex provides inspection and testing services to assess the performance of new and existing air-pollution control systems.
Our engineers analyse flue-gas volumes, dust loads and operating conditions to ensure accurate equipment selection and process optimisation.
Through site inspections and measured data, we identify efficiency issues, recommend improvements, and support process development during both operational and tender stages.
Manufacturing
Vortex Engineering Group includes two specialised manufacturing companies in New Zealand — Taurus Engineering and Taylors Manufacturing.
Their capabilities allow us to fabricate key air-pollution control components in-house and maintain full visibility over quality and delivery.
Our design teams collaborate directly with Taurus and Taylors throughout fabrication, ensuring clear technical alignment, consistent quality, and efficient delivery of complete engineered solutions.
This integrated approach strengthens our capability to support large and complex air-pollution control projects across the group.
Installation & Erection
Vortex provides comprehensive turn-key support for all equipment supplied as part of a project. With over 30 years of experience designing and installing a full range of air pollution control systems throughout New Zealand, we ensure every solution meets the highest standards. Installation and assembly are carefully planned and carried out under the guidance of our skilled and experienced team, delivering seamless integration and reliable performance on-site.
Commissioning & Training
Vortex provides commissioning and training services for all installations, offering either supervision of client-led commissioning or full commissioning with our own personnel.
Our supervisors work alongside the client’s team to ensure safe and coordinated implementation. Training combines on-site instruction with documentation-based sessions to support effective operation throughout the equipment’s lifecycle.
Cold commissioning
Involves checking all components and circuits before introducing power, followed by staged energising aligned with the client’s programme.
Hot commissioning
Begins when process loads are applied and the equipment is brought into full operational service.
Servicing & Maintenance
Regular servicing helps ensure air-pollution control equipment continues to operate safely and efficiently throughout its lifecycle. Vortex provides support for both new installations and existing systems, with services that include:
• On-site maintenance and performance testing
• Operational and maintenance guidance
• Equipment upgrades to meet updated standards
• Installation, operation and maintenance documentation
We also provide retrofit solutions for equipment supplied by Vortex or other manufacturers, such as:
• Retrofitting fabric filter internals or mast-discharge electrodes in ESPs
• Upgrading ESP components, including replacing pneumatic rappers with electric systems
Spare Parts Supply
Vortex supplies quality spare parts for a wide range of equipment, including:
- Electrostatic Precipitators: JOY-Western Precipitation, BHA, TAPC, Lurgi, Flakt, Lodge Cottrell.
- Fabric Filters: Filter bags, cages, pulse valves, dust valves.
- Scrubbers: Packings, mist pads, spray nozzles.
