#VEL2026028
PGG Wrightson Seeds, one of New Zealand’s leading seed suppliers, operates gravity tables to sort and clean seed. As part of its commitment to providing a safe workplace and reducing environmental impact, PGG Wrightson Seeds engaged Vortex Engineering to design a cleaner, more energy-efficient dust control solution.
Following a site review in April 2025, Vortex outlined a plan to install two large extraction hoods over the gravity tables and connect them to a high-capacity reverse air baghouse. This design uses a gentle cleaning action, so it doesn’t require compressed air, minimises energy use, and extends filter life.
Vortex’s internal process includes producing layout drawings, carrying out a safety- in-design review and working through final design, manufacture and testing to New Zealand/Australian standards.
Solutions
- Baghouse and fan: Provide and install an RAF5+1 reverse air filter (about 54 000 m³/h capacity) together with a 75 kW FA1120 extraction fan fitted with an ABB variable speed drive.
- Hoods and ducting: Fabricate two extraction hoods above the gravity tables and connect them via 1 000 mm ductwork to the fan and from the fan to the baghouse, including all supports and fittings.
- Discharge system: Fit a rotary valve, discharge bin cover and conveyors to move collected dust into PGG Wrightson’s bins.
- Control and instrumentation: Supply a PLC based control panel, differential pressure monitoring and explosion protection features such as panel doors and a reverse flow damper.
The project is underway, and installation is scheduled for December 2025.
