Job#VEL2025074
A leading timber manufacturer based in Southland, known for producing high-quality radiata pine products for both local and international markets, recently sought a dust extraction system to support one of their newly built cut line facilities. The collected dust and shavings are repurposed into wood pellets, allowing waste material to be recycled into biomass fuel.
Background
Timber processing operations generate large volumes of both fine and coarse wood dust which can affect product quality, workplace safety, and equipment reliability. An effective solution was required to capture and control dust across their cut line, ensuring cleaner air, safer work conditions, better system performance, and enabling reuse of waste dust as biomass fuel.
Our Solution
Vortex Engineering was engaged to provide a complete dust extraction system tailored to the cut line’s specific needs. The system includes:
- A cyclone separator to remove larger wood particles
- A reverse pulse baghouse for fine dust filtration
- A custom fan and extraction ducting network for airflow management
- Convey ducting to transport processed material to a storage silo.
The equipment was designed by Vortex and built by our group companies, Taylors Manufacturing, Taurus Engineering, and Airtight NZ who also installed and commissioned the baghouse. This ensured seamless delivery across design, fabrication, and commissioning.
