Project Overview

Vortex Engineering recently completed supplying a pneumatic conveying system for wood pellets to Affco, a client in the food industry in New Zealand. The system was designed to support Affco’s boiler operations, ensuring efficient and reliable pellet feeding. The project involved providing key components such as a fan, cyclone, blow line, and return ducting, all customised to meet the client’s specific needs.

Design and Fabrication

Vortex’s design featured a blow line constructed from heavy rolled sections to accommodate high airflow and pellet transport, while the return line was made from QF lightweight ducting. Taylors Manufacturing, a member of the Vortex group, fabricated the components based on Vortex’s detailed design.

Challenges and Collaboration

Challenges: The silos for the project were outside our scope, but the blow line needed to “thread” through their legs. This required extensive coordination with our partner, Lyttelton Engineering Ltd, as they integrated our model into their overall layout to find the best fit. Thanks to their cooperation, the process was smooth, though somewhat extended due to the necessary back-and-forth adjustments.

Although Vortex was not involved in the installation, our focus on precision design and the supply of high-quality components ensured a smooth integration into the client’s existing systems. Our collaborative approach with partners and clients helps lay the groundwork for successful project outcomes.
