Tegal Foods, a leading food processing company based in Christchurch, New Zealand, has always been committed to improving the workplace and surrounding environment to ensure the health and safety of its employees. To further enhance the quality of the work environment, they decided to upgrade their existing ventilation system to reduce odour buildup both inside and outside the plant.
Our Solution
We implemented the following solutions for Tegal Foods:
- Installed a new high-capacity extraction fan to ensure efficient removal of air from the plant.
- Upgraded and installed new ducting to improve odour capture from the plant and the effluent tank.
These improvements seamlessly integrated with the existing BioFilter, optimizing its performance in odour treatment.
Challenges
The project presented several challenges:
- Integration with Existing Systems: Ensuring the new and upgraded systems seamlessly integrated with the existing BioFilter without disrupting ongoing plant operations.
- Minimizing Downtime: The installation and upgrade process needed to be carried out with minimal disruption to the plant’s daily activities, requiring meticulous planning and coordination.
The new system was fabricated and installed by our group company Taurus Engineering (formerly Taymac Stainless) and Taylors Manufacturing, based on Vortex’s design. The commissioning was successful, achieving the targeted improvements. The air quality improved, providing a more comfortable and healthy work environment for staff. It also positively impacted the surrounding environment.
