In the heart of Western Australia’s wheatbelt, a large western Australian grain logistics company, plays a crucial role in the processing, handling, and marketing of grain. Ensuring a safe working environment, especially in the context of grain dust management, is a key operational concern for this grain logistics company.

To address the challenge of grain dust, a project was initiated to design, manufacture and install a new dust baghouse (PC69x3600) and a FC630 fan. This equipment was essential in filtering out grain dust, thereby maintaining a healthy and safe work environment. Our group company Taylors Manufacturing was entrusted with manufacturing the baghouse and fan, which were packed and transported on a 40′ flatrack.

The project faced several challenges, including manufacturing custom length/diameter filter cages, ensuring all equipment met IECEx explosion safety standards and logistics of delivery to site in a still volatile shipping environment. Despite these challenges, the team adapted and succeeded in delivering the equipment to the site, albeit later than planned. The installation was 90% completed within the scheduled shutdown period (1 – 13 Oct 2023). A subsequent mini shutdown was arranged to finalise the installation and commissioning of the equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to the client’s operations.

This project exemplifies a successful collaboration in the face of logistical and manufacturing challenges, resulting in an enhanced work environment for the client. The new dust management system will significantly mitigate the risks associated with grain dust, thereby reaffirming the large western Australian grain logistics companies’ commitment to safety and operational efficiency.
