In the early 1980s, Geoffrey Rathbun graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Canterbury. His diverse life journey has shaped him into a seasoned engineer. His sense of humour has also developed over time, proving quite useful in his professional and personal interactions.
Geoffrey began his career at a small fabrication company on Maces Road, Christchurch. Several decades later, working with Vortex, he still takes pleasure in visiting the same old “fries” shop.
After receiving his master’s degree in CNC control technology, Geoffrey moved to Australia and spent many years working in multi-disciplinary teams developing high technology products. Returning to New Zealand in the 1990s, he continued his roles in hi-tech product development. He particularly enjoyed developing an advanced hydraulic control system for a propulsion system provider before moving on to an enterprise developing a groundbreaking Stirling engine system.
For Geoffrey, engineering is a lifelong adventurous exploration of the creative potential of the human mind and of the whole human community.
At Vortex, Geoffrey handles the wide variety of smaller jobs that come in, such as pricing fans and assessing solutions for special customer requirements. He also handles some of the tenders that Vortex bids for.
